1935 Ford Three Window Coupe, Model 48
This right hand drive 1935 Model 48 is an extremely rare motor car. Featuring a relocated, larger 3622cc V8 flat head engine and transverse leaf springs, which sat outside the cars wheel base. The result was the Ford centre poise ride which was as “smooth as a swing” and with lower slung body work, according to Ford’s sales litrature at the time of release.
The rear ‘dickey’ Seat accessed from rear side steps bring a unique charm to these wonderful cars, including its original fake sun roof, it also has the added benefit of opening front and rear windscreens.
This car has been the donor car of choice for the “Hot Rod ” community, hence unmodified examples of this great looking three window coupe are now so very rare. This is an original steel bodied 1935 Ford Model 48 Coupe.
Built in Canada to right hand drive specification, chassis number 9707 acquired its first and only UK registration PDH 595 on 1st July 1952. The first owner in the UK was Geoffrey E Fenton of Walsall, second owner was, Geoffrey G Jeakins of Chingford, the last owner was WH Wood of Epping who acquired it in 2010.
Today the car shows just 79,968 miles over the ownership of just three owners, since 1952, this is a very original example.
The history file for the car contains Invoices and work carried out very recently by my company, totalling just over £7130.00 including suspension and refurbished water pumps, converted coil adaptor, new door glass and engine bay detailing along with painting the underside of the vehicle, the car has a custom built stainless steel exhaust system, with tax discs dating back to 1994 and many old Mot’s, it even has the original UK buff log book. (very rare these days) accompanied with a very rare Ford sports Greyhound mascot, wood-effect dashboard along with Bedford cloth for the interior and dicky seat.
With painted period red wire wheels shod with correct cross ply tyres, it will be very hard to find such an original Coupe for sale in this Country, needless to say it runs and drives as good as it looks.
