
This 1967 Cortina 1500 GT 2 door car was first registered
on the 10th January 1967 the original owner had commissioned Priestly
engineering of Aycliff Co. Durham to prepare the car for circuit racing, the
work was carried out in 1968 , the car was fitted with a stage three engine,
with twin 40's and oil cooler an 80psi oil pump and a 10 inch diameter steering
wheel, twin Jaguar petrol pumps were fitted into the boot, the car was
re-sprayed Aubergine with a yellow ocrea stripe and wheels. In 1970 the car was re-prepared as a Rally car acquiring
a strut brace and sump guard along with a reversing spot light, Bosch iodine
headlamps and air box filters, the car was then used sparingly at various
Rally's throughout the country, the second owner purchased the car in 1974,
unfortunately he fell on hard times and sold the car back to the original owner
in 1976, the car was once again used for Rallies the original owner raced the
car for two years and in 1978 sold it back to the second owner, although the car
has had four changes of ownership up to 2004 it actually has only had two
owners from new up until that time. The race engine was removed and the original engine
number was 118E349166C and had been placed back into the car in 1994, back
tracking a little, the car had been painted red in 1978 and had only covered
some 69,000 miles from new in 1974, in 1998 she was painted Ermine white although the colour under the bonnet states
that it was more brilliant white when
new. In 2001 the lower half was painted and a green Lotus
stripe was added along with a black bonnet and wing tops, in 1978 the car it
had half a roll cage fitted, Cibie driving lamps, battery re-positioned into
the boot, flame shield in the boot,
long range petrol tank, navigator foot rest, rear seat removed and servo
(2000 E) placed on top of the rear seat housing, lightweight front wings along
with reinforced wing tops were fitted, double anti-roll bars and over legged
chassis reinforcement. In 1979 aluminium rear lower valances were fitted, rear
leaf spring assister's, also very rare Original Magnesium Minilite wheels
which in themselves are worth a great deal today ! original low ratio steering
box is fitted, the diff is 3:7 the type used in RS Escort's, the gearbox is
the original one fitted to the car. The car was sold to a Major in Cornwall in August 2005
and subsequently sold to its last owner in August 2006, last year it had all
new floor pans (Ex-Pressed Steel Panels Ltd), inner and outer sills, both
front chassis legs, both outriggers, whole front suspension was completely
rebuilt with new polly bushing, new front struts fitted, there is an invoice
for over £6000 for all that recent work carried out in the cars substantial
history file with 19 old mots dating back to 1978 when the car had only covered
some 69530 miles, it has now covered a total of 86,070 miles from new, there
